Mission Statement

At St. Peter’s (Highland) United Church of Christ, we are a dedicated community of Christian disciples committed to living out the gospel of Jesus Christ through Growing in Faith, Caring for our Neighbors, and Building Community.

A Legacy of Faith, A Future of Possibility

For more than 150 years, St. Peter’s United Church of Christ has been a beacon of faith in Evansville, growing from a small gathering in a log sanctuary to a vibrant, mission-driven congregation. From its earliest days, the church has embraced change by welcoming new generations of believers and continually adapting to the needs of the community. Our history is marked by a spirit of resilience and innovation, from pioneering women’s leadership in ministry to forging ecumenical partnerships that enrich our shared faith journey.

Today, St. Peter’s is defined by its commitment to Growing in Faith, Caring for Our Neighbors, and Building Community. We are a congregation that actively works for justice, whether through direct service, advocacy, or meaningful partnerships. Our outreach ministries—supporting housing accessibility, food security, and economic justice—are led by our dedicated laity, and we remain engaged in broader community efforts like Congregations Acting for Justice and Empowerment (CAJE) and interfaith initiatives. Worship is a blend of tradition and fresh expression, integrating online and in-person experiences to ensure everyone has a place at the table.

As we look to the future, St. Peter’s remains committed to deepening its impact and embracing new ways to connect, worship, and serve. We are a church that values faith that is dynamic, service that is active, and community that is inclusive. Guided by our core values, we seek to be a place where people grow spiritually, engage meaningfully with the world, and build lasting relationships. With an open heart and a bold spirit, we continue to follow where God is leading, trusting that our best work is ahead of us.
